Real Outdoor Leaders!

Accomplishment comes from our determination. Talking about determination, my team has completely achieved something already. You might have already got a clue what I am talking about. I have been working on Outdoor program for 3 rounds. When my round 4 begins, I have Outdoor program again on my Wednesday schedule! How pathetic I am?

We have contacted the Green Village school in Kampong Cham and decided to work with them. Before we go on a trip, we have a workshop for them to warm up before going on trip.

After having a full days of workshop, we went to Kirirom Mountain in Kampong Speu.

This is one of my experience with teaching and guiding other to the wild. I wish I could do more than one trip to get more experience.

MMMR — What is that?

What did I learn last round??????

Ohh right, I learn about Mean, Median, Mode and Range. Almost forgot. Kakrona you baka!

Before jumping to the lesson, let me ask y’all one question! How are you doing? It’s been a long time since I’ve updated any work. I’ve been pretty busy lately and I don’t have any time to update. Okay, let’s get going with our lesson.

It’s not really a lesson, but it is what I have learned in class for round 3.

Teacher: What does mean mean?

Me: Huh? Mean? Mean means to convey, refer or aim for the knowledge that wanted to give to other people.

Teacher: Idiot!

Me: Nani Sureh? ( What are you saying in Japanese )

Teacher: Not this meaning.

Me: ( try again ) Mean means rude or you are acting disrespectful to another person.

Teacher: Still idiot!

Me: NANI? ( What in Japanese )

Teacher: Almost right, but not this.

Me: ( last try ) Mean means the average of set number

Teacher: Subarashii!!

Me: Go-gome teacher. What does “Subarashii” mean?

Teacher: Excellent!

Me: Arigato!

To get you back from my joke show up there, let’s me explain the four words here . Mean means the average of set number.

Median means the number in the middle of the set of numbers.

Mode means the number that most appear.

Last but not least is range. Range is the difference between the lowest and the highest number.

To understand deeper, you can do some problems that are given down there. The most important thing is “DON’T FORGET TO ARRANGE THEM FROM SMALLEST TO BIGGEST”

Enjoy and hope you like it.

*Don’t forget to go check out my Personal learning!

Problem 1

The numbers that are given: 92, 45, 74, 29, 19, 87 and 56.

Find the mean, median, mode and range for the number that are given.l

Problem 2

The numbers that are given: 30, 100, 46, 99, 215 and 30

Find the mean, median, mode and range for the number that are given.l

Problem 3 — Challenge problem!

( I haven’t tell y’all about the formula of how to do this, but this is extra work)

There are 4 scores that Summer got from her learning. They are 25, 45, x and 93. The mean of the four scores is 50. Find the missing score.

Program Timeline & The Adventurous Trip of the round

Make Change

Create change doesn’t mean you only do it one time. To create change, you need long time duration to create that change and make an impact. Follow up from last round, I’m still here creating and implement program to different schools in Cambodia.

Let’s do it!

Last round, me and my team create workshop plan and module for Outdoor Leadership program. This round, we are going out to different schools in Cambodia, especially Phnom Penh to try out our program and run through our module. In week three of our exploration, we went to KAPE organization which is located at Phnom Penh. This organization has been approved by our team that we can work with them. On that day, we went to get to know each other by playing some games, having conversations and building trust. We also observe some of the students that can fit to our workshop and have high interest on Outdoor.

“The more you do, the best you will get”

There is a quote states, “ The more you do, the best you will get”. This quote has push and inspire us to do more than what we are doing right now. Last time, we implement and practice our workshop plan with KAPE organization. Because we want to improve our work, we also went down to Happy Chandara school to do our workshop there. We have been improving our Khmer workshop more and more than before. We also got a lot of feedback which includes what we did well and what could have been done better.

Young Leaders

To teach others, you need to teach yourself first”. Seeing this quote, it make us going hiking at Oral mountain in Kampong Speu, Cambodia. We have a plan to take the students that have done our workshop before and going hiking at different mountains in Cambodia. To lead them to different mountains in Cambodia, we need to learn and know what to do first before teaching others, so we are going to go hiking in Oral mountain! Our goal is to learn how to be an outdoor leader and to face different situations that might happen during the trip. We need to learn how to face those problems and solve it.

Take Action | During Trip

We went to Oral mountain for two nights and three days. On the first day, we took four hours to ride the bus from our school to Kampong Speu province. We took another 2 hours on riding tractor to the base of the mountain and we took 3 hours to hike up to ⅓ of the mountain. We need to carry all of the stuff that we need including, water, food, tents, our personal backpack, grassmates, food containers and other small items such as hygiene stuff.

On the second day, we wake up early in the morning and we start hiking at 7am. You will never expect or imagine what the route look like if you never been hiking before. The route is really difficult to hike and very steep. We had to hang on to each other in order to reach to different places on the mountain. We have one CHALLENGE that we all need to face. Before the trip, our facilitators have divided us into four different teams and lead in different days. The facilitators role is to act as one of the participants and have different problems for each day which includes homesick, tired and other problems that are related to hiking. We are the leader of that day, we need to help them and find a solution to help them.

On the last day, we get back to the base of the mountain and rode the tractor back to the village and to our bus. We get back to our school by 5:30 pm and it’s time to clean up!

Adventurous, new experiences and Face Difficulty

There are so many challenges and difficulties during the trip. At the same time, we also have fun and enjoy the time that we have together. We have to do most of the things by yourself like carry the items up to the mountain. The route to the campsite that we are going to sleep is really steep and slippery. Some of our members health is not really good and some of us is not that strong too. Talking about strong, we hike up the mountain on the second day and the route is extremely difficult. I can say that, this is my first time having a difficult hike. I love hiking, so I kept pushing myself and my legs to continues even though it sore my leg’s muscles. Sadly, we didn’t reach the top of the mountain because we are afraid of getting dark.

“The fruits of your own hard work is the sweetest” – Deepika Padukone

Kakrona, a girl with determination, love to explore, love adventure, self protection and love mountain is having an accomplishment that not most of her friends didn’t have the chance. She was born to be a person who loves nature from her heart, her blood and her soul. By hearing the name, people already know that she is strong and unbreakable. Who is that girl? It’s me! I will keep pushing myself to do work. I will make this program happen and well known around Cambodia. I will try my best no matter what. I will make the best of this, so it can pay my hard work for 129 hours or 98 days.

Words discovery time!

Research Time!

There are billions of words in the dictionary. There are many types of words around the world too. Some words are used in the text, some are used in poetry and some are used in different kinds of writing. Literary device is one of the important types of word. While there are hundreds of literary devices have been created, there are 24 common types of literary devices.

In our literacy class, our teacher have assigned our. classmate for different literary devices. She called it a mini lesson, which all of us will get one literary device and do some research to teach our classmates. Those research include, the meaning of the words, some examples and activity to make sure everyone understands the words.

Mini-Presentation

I got a relaxing task which do a mini-presentation for a word call Oxymoron. What I need to do is to look up what the word first and then I’ll go deeper and deeper. I’m in-charge of this word, so I want to make sure that all of my friends will understand this word. Let’s get started!

In Greek, Oxy mean sharp and moron mean foolish. Together, we call it an Oxymoron. Oxymoron originally put into a meaningful paradox and condensed into a couple of words such as Lonely crowded and sweet sorrow. Oxymoron also known as a figure of speech in which two opposites ideas are joined to create affect. The common oxymoron phrase is a combination of an adjective and preceded by a noun with contrasting meaning like living death. We don’t call a person oxymoron, but we describe them. Oxymoron usually use for style, to adding flavor to the speech, for entertainment and for drama effect. I also using oxymoron in my writing, but you don’t realize it. You can go check the first paragraph again. See? I use a word relaxing task. The word relaxing always mean easy and free. Task mean something that you need to get done and sometimes it difficult. I use this word because it sounds fun and make it more interesting. At the end of the presentation, I also have a game which I’m adopted from Study website. This game is just to test everyone understanding with making oxymoron.  I learn a lot from this self discovery and understand word.

Youth Outdoor Program

Outdoor leadership is the leader in wilderness. Outdoor can lead a way to define your new life with nature. Talking about nature, if you are looking deep into Nature, and then you will understand everything. Nature provides everything to both humans and animals. Nature makes your worries melt away.  Nature instantly relax you and make you feel unbelievably, grateful for this beautiful planet we get to call home. It’s not too late to appreciate nature.

I have already experienced outdoor trip with my friends and my teachers. Now, I want to let other youth in Cambodia to experience and feel what is like to be outdoors. By doing that, I’ve joined a project called, Outdoor Leadership Program. Our goal is to help Cambodia youth experience trekking and surviving in the wilderness. We also want to create a passion of trekking for Cambodian youth rather than riding polluted vehicles at the trekking area. We do want to giving opportunities and successfully motivate students and youths to go out into the wilderness, camp, and trekking to fully understand about nature and the environment. That includes doing workshop, social media interaction and going on trips. The reason we want to do this because most of Cambodian youth don’t really going out and spend time with nature.

There are four big categories that we want to give out to them. There are Leadership Skills, Medical skills, Nature appreciation / Environmental stewardship and Wilderness skills. Those categories are being organized and written by our students based on their experience and knowledge from their learning. We are students. We never went out and teach other people. During the project, we have learned how to keep people engaged with our topic, having confidence at speaking toward people, open and close the conversation, what makes a good workshop and some communication skills. Learning from our teachers is not enough. We also doing some Skype with other outdoor leader from different countries and interview them.

Personally, I want to share these ideas to a lot of people. I believe that, people around the world want to understand and protect nature. In the area where I lived, I have shared this idea to my sisters and other of my neighbor. Being outdoors is fun and you can take care of nature while you have fun.

Independent Study / Round 5

This round is more of independent. We need to make our own decision with our work. My teacher was creating a schedule for all of the student to put down their work and any work that related to writing. I think, I like this round the most because most of the work that I have during this class are mostly the work that left over from the last class and I could finish the homework on time. Including in that, my teacher also add some of the reading article and having us reading book and at the end, we will do our book review to our classmate.

My teacher call it a Novel Study. We read the novel and we study the novel by their vocabulary, their component, the format and the main idea of the book. I read a book call “The bad Beginning or Orphans! Written by Lemony Snicket. When I first saw this book, I feel like it really interesting with the cover and the title, but when I read the description, I don’t really want to read it. The description said “ Read something else! If you are like happy ending. This book is not only have sad ending, but it has no happy beginning or in the middle. The book have a little bit of happy scene. The book was amazing. I kind of like this book, but it’s not my favorite book. After finish the book, I am doing the book review with my other friend who read the same book as me and do a short presentation to my classmates.

Beside this reading things, my teacher also have a writing session and it’s about “How to Be happy”. This is about how to be happy when you get something bad or you have a bad situation. I wrote about How to stay positive when battle depression. I have spend almost ten weeks to finish this essay which include, research, correct grammar, finding quotes, inspiration, what is depression and new words using. Until now, I get one amazing essay which written by me!

S-I-M-P-L-E Machine / Round 5

Everyday, people use modern machine to help improve their work or make their work easier. Mostly, they define machine as the tool that use electricity and modern tool, but tools like hammer or axes are also call machine, but it’s just the different type of machine that you use the force from yourself more than it can do for you. For this round, I’ve not been at the class much, but I kind of understand and know what is my class content. In the past seven weeks, we have learn about Simple Machine! What’s a simple machine? Simple machine is any basic mechanical device for applying a force  which include wedge, plane and lever. For this topic, I’ve learn and understand the content from a website call ck12.org, but I also learn and do some research from the other website too.

To understand clearly about the content, my teacher have divide us into team and let us do some small project. In this project, we are making a simple machine and use whatever material that we have in our school. My team have three members and we decide to make pulley! Pulleys are simple machine that lifting some heavy stuff to make human easier.

These are the photos of Pulley that I have made with my teammates.

Filming & Acting / Round 5

Have you ever watch the movies or film? Was it good? Do you like it? What is your favorite movie? What kind of genre do you like? What is your favorite movie country? Okay, Let’s stop asking question now. This is the last round and the last exploration for my third year. I was one of the lucky students who get to choose to learn with two Hollywood star. They are Aviv and Lianne. Through seven weeks, we have divide into two team. There are acting class and editing class. We have learn different skill for five weeks and for the last two weeks we have made an amazing film together.

Let’s talk about me 🙂 For this amazing film, we have different roles and I am Production Designer! I am the head of the production designer. My role is to dress up the actor and have all the props ready for them. This role is kind of hard because I need to ask for all the props and clothes for the actor. I enjoy my role and I think, I’ll pay my best effort on doing my role.

What I have learn from this exploration is so much to talk. It’s including the technique of shooting the video, how the different role do their job, types of film, story or explanation behind the story, the evolution of the story and the technique of editing the video. I can say that, after I learn about all those things, every time I watch the movies, I always look at the angle that they shoot, the tone, the design and other things. During the seven weeks that we have learn, our teacher do screening a lot of movies. My favorite movie among all of them is The Matrix.

Ready to film!

For this round, we have learn how to write essay in Khmer. There are many different type of essay in Khmer, which are Essay about proverbs and slogans, essay about Khmer literacy and essay about explaining something. The format and the process of writing these essays are really different. In my class, my teacher was picking an essay about proverbs and slogans. Because it is a lot, my teacher only focus on proverbs first than follow by slogans. How to write essay about Slogans? Well, we have different part to write about. First, we are writing about the introduction. In the introduction we are divided into three parts. There are into the problem, revenues problem and asking about the problem. The thing that the introduction want us to avoid is Don’t ask the slogans meaning to the audience. Second, we have body paragraph. In there we divided into five big parts which are, sentence connect with the introduction, explain some of keywords of the slogans, explain the topic, explain the meaning of the topic and conclusion of the topic. The third and the last of how to write the essay is the conclusion. For this, we have two parts to write about. First is giving feedback to the slogan and personal opinion about the slogans.

The slogan that he give us to write about is “ Waiting for each water drops, the cup will be full in one day”.
